As much as the average fashionista loves to rock her own style, follow the latest trends and mimic their favorite celebs, getting dressed to the nines to lunch with friends is no longer what it used to be. "Casual day" seems to be the constant norm. More and more women have traded down from their tight skinny jeans and stilettos and opted for more comfortable loungewear options. But some people are still asking, "What is loungewear?"

Often, the association with loungewear has been to pajamas, sleepwear, yoga clothes or the typical Juicy sweatsuit. But it has evolved into so much more. People are taking their loungewear to the streets. Whether it be on vacation, poolside, out and about on daily errand runs or even out on the town. • Look for a straight cut rather than a flared or a boot cut style as it doesn't suit the look.
• The trend is to turn them up at the bottom exposing a bit of your ankle. They have to sit just above the ankle.
• Pair them up with a more feminine top. However, you can always pair it up with a tight tee or a hoody which is equally flattering. And, keep the top simple.
• Opt for a nice wide belt.
• Strappy sandals or killer heels work well with this style.
• Do not opt for very tight ones. Choose a pair that is loose, yet flattering at the hips.
• The older a boyfriend jeans look, the hotter it makes you look.

Loungewear is clothing you wear to be comfortable, whether lounging around or not. Loungewear can be fashionable or frumpy. However I prefer the fashionable kind.
As an emerging loungewear designer, I have to admit that even my thinking on the loungewear category has evolved. Maybe it was my transplant from Dallas to Los Angeles that caused me to truly embrace the depths of the loungewear clothing category. The sunny, basically year-round seventy degree weather makes it easy to throw on clothes and go. The laid back, relaxed Southern California lifestyle makes choosing loungewear everyday a no brainer. But it's so much more than that. Women are more free and less bound to traditional clothing guidelines that cause them discomfort in more ways than the physical. That is a trend that extends beyond California.
Today, women want to be modern, hip and current without sacrificing comfort. We want clothing that serves more than one limited purpose. And in this economy, when you lay that credit card on the counter for something, you want to know you'll get more use out of that clothing purchase than one night of the season. It's all about having staple separates that can work together across your entire wardrobe. More and more labels are coming out with their own loungewear clothing lines, which is proof that this category is expanding.
When choosing loungewear, practicality must be taken into consideration. It's all about taking your outfits from one time of day to the next. Choose clothing that lets you take a piece from one day part to the next. In the morning, I may get up, throw on my comfy super lounge tee dress with some flip flops and take my Westie on his morning walk. From there, I'm already dressed and ready to work in my home office, run out to see my contractors or lunch appointments. Later, after the temperature drops, I can easily pull on my riding boots, add a chunky belt and head to an early dinner with friends. This is really the only way to work a wardrobe these days. Versatility is key.
